SoupAddict is not the poster child for delayed gratification. More than once has she purchased something locally at a higher price than from, say, Amazon.com, in order to have her grubby hands on it the very same day.
So, the fact that she plants Spring bulbs is more than a bit of a paradox. First, the bulbs must be planted at the end of the summer growing season, when SoupAddict is completely pooped from tearing down her many gardens and prepping the beds for a long winter’s nap. (At that point, she doesn’t want to even look at anything green until at least November, much less do more planting.) And second, looking at a tulip bulb is a little like looking at a stalk of wheat before starting a wedding cake: there’s a long way to go before the one thing is transformed into the glorious other.
So, when April rolls around, SoupAddict is always surprised at just how happy she is when her yard starts to come alive with blooms, most of which are the result of the previous Autumn’s hardgrumpy, evenlabors.
World’s Favorite Tulip is one of SoupAddict’s, too. Simple, classic, red with yellow. Perfect blooms, one and all.
Monsella Double Flowering Tulip, big, gorgeous blooms that work and play very well with World’s Favorite in the garden. SoupAddict like.
SoupAddict’s beautiful weeping cherry. An ill-timed wind storm stripped the tree prematurely of most of its lovely flowers, but some hung tight so SoupAddict could snap a snap. They’re thoughtful like that, those cherry blossoms.
Finally, my sweet little Sugar Snap Peas are up and about and starting to send out runners.
SoupAddict also began her indoor seed starting activities last weekend, and currently has 8 tomatoes (of 28) up and groping for the light, as well as dozens of basils of various types.
On a completely unrelated note, did you know that April is National Grilled Cheese Month? SoupAddict didn’t, and wonders how something so significant can completely escape her (yet she can recite the long sections of Hamlet she was forced to memorize way back in the pre-Internet days of high school).
Well, you know what this means, right? Right? Cheese. Stay tuned.

Okay, Phyllis, I was reading fast, and I thought, you know what, you're absolutely right, everyone should have Clint Eastwood in their garden ;). Anyhoo [ahem] ... Black Cherry is my favorite, and my Cherokee Purple seedlings are up and at 'em. Woo hoo! Come on, summer!
Marcella, I feel like I have to come up with panini grill sandwiches to justify both of our purchases. Hm. Grill cheese. Don't worry, I'll power through it. :)

Just wanted to add that I went to the tomatoe web site you suggested and I have pots and pots of little tomatoe plants. Black cherry, Cherokee Purple and my favorite Clint Eastwood Roudy Red. Everyone should have a little Clint Eastwood in their garden.

All kidding aside. CHEESE is probably one of the best inventions in the world. Preceeded by BACON and GARLIC of course.
